According to the AARP, the amount of new music students over 45 out paced younger students in 2017. The New York Times, Washington Post, the BBC and other news outlets have caught on and written numerous articles about the trend.
A simple search of guitar forums will bring up tens of thousands of posts on “learn to play guitar later in life”.

I am 57 and just started learning this week. Good timing! I had wanted to learn for 25 years, but never did it before. I was sick of never doing anything about it, and figured it was time to change that. I am old enough to know that learning a new skill takes time and patience, I know if I keep plugging away, it will come eventually. One of the most encouraging things I heard is no matter how bad you are, it is impossible to practice something and not get better at it. I don’t think it is ever too late to learn a new skill!
I am almost 48. I started playing again after many years away (gave it up in college). I think that music helps keep your mind sharp as you age. Plus, it is fun! I’ll never be Jimi or Clapton but so what!
