What do Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Eddie Van Halen have in common?
They’re Cybernetic Guitarists!
No not robots. Let me explain…
You see, Cybernetics is actually a broad term that basically means creating feedback loops to iterate and improve something.
The difference between great players and millions of wannabes is the good players are really really good at creating little feedback loops that create progress.
What’s a feedback loop? It’s a simple 5-step process:
- Try to do something
- Fail at doing it
- Analyze why you are failing
- Try to improve
- Repeat until you achieve goal
If you aren’t doing this process in everything you are working on, you are wingin’ it. And that is probably the most grueling and frustrating method of learning anything.
So take a step back next time you pick up your guitar to practice, and go through those steps. See if you don’t have a few lightbulbs come on and find a path forward!
