Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the tools, lessons, and how Adventure Guitar works.

What is Adventure Guitar?

Adventure Guitar is a free interactive guitar education platform built around the 1–7 interval framework. It includes 8+ browser-based tools, a growing lesson library, free downloadable guides, and a reference book called Guitar Atlas. No account is required — everything runs in your browser.

Is Adventure Guitar really free?

Yes. All tools and lessons are completely free. No paywall, no subscription, no account required. Guitar Atlas is available for purchase separately, and a Patreon exists for those who want to support the project — but nothing on the site is gated behind either.

Do I need to create an account to use the tools?

No. Every tool works without an account. Open any page, start using it — nothing to sign up for, no email required.

What is the 1–7 interval framework?

The 1–7 framework describes musical relationships using numbers instead of note names. The root is 1, and every other note gets a number (2–7) based on its interval distance from the root. This makes patterns on the fretboard transferable to any key without re-memorizing shapes. It is the foundation of Guitar Atlas and every lesson here.

How many tools are available?

Eight free tools: Guitar Neck Explorer, Musical Dice, Practice Metronome, Flashcards, Practice Randomizer, Ear Tuning Trainer, Intervals & Root Map, and Strumming Machine. More tools are added as new lessons are released.

What skill level is Adventure Guitar designed for?

Any level. Beginners start with Lesson 01 and work through the curriculum in order. Intermediate and advanced players often find the interval framework fills in gaps that other methods left behind. The focus is understanding what you play, not just copying shapes.

How do the lessons work?

Lessons are organized into layers — each covering a major concept in depth, starting with the physics of sound and building toward harmonic mastery. Each lesson has 8–10 sections you navigate one at a time, with interactive tools embedded directly inside. You don't watch a video and switch apps — the tools are part of the lesson.

Who made Adventure Guitar?

Jarrett Owens — a self-taught guitarist who started at age 10. After years of piecing together theory from scattered sources, he wrote Guitar Atlas as a single visual reference, then built Adventure Guitar as its interactive home.

What is Guitar Atlas?

Guitar Atlas is a visual music theory book built entirely around the 1–7 interval system. It covers intervals, chords, scales, and their combined relationships — presented as fretboard maps rather than standard notation. Available in print through Lulu and as a digital PDF through Patreon.

Does Adventure Guitar work on mobile and tablet?

Yes. The site is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktop. It is also a Progressive Web App (PWA) — install it to your home screen from your browser for offline-capable access to tools.
